"Free snitching": 140 thousand complaints filed for tax evasion will remain unpaid

“Lion’s Mouth” is a mailbox for anonymous denunciations in the Doge’s Palace (Venice, Italy). Translation of the inscription: “Secret charges against anyone who conceals favors or services, or secretly conspires to conceal the true income from them.”

Many residents of Greece hoped that they would do nothing other than… photograph cash receipts, having “informing” as their main or additional source of income, but they were a little hasty…

Great disappointment awaits those who “snitched”… prematurely on their fellow citizens or enterprises for tax evasion, since about 140 thousand complaintssubmitted to date will remain unpaid.

It is known that the government has set a “cash reward” of 100-3000 euros (depending on the amount of the offense) for those who report other citizens or businesses. However, this measure will not have retroactive effect, that is, it will not apply until the adoption of a new tax bill.

Bonuses for those who reported tax evaders

“Free snitching. Independent income,” journalists sneer. They even added that many will have no other job than… photographing receipts, and “snitching” will become the main or additional source of income!

It is noted that yesterday Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking from the rostrum of parliament, statedthat “half of freelancers declare zero income, whether true or not, it’s absurd.”

In other words, he accused them of evading taxes. But he didn’t tell them that before the double elections in May-June, when they rushed en masse to vote for him and his party to keep New Democracy in power. Because if he had told them about this, the election results would definitely have been different.

Private entrepreneurs and freelancers are one of the main and traditional voters of New Democracy.
