Greece: the road that went viral and captivated everyone

Such an example is the road “hidden” in the heart of Valya Kalda (Βάλια Κάλντα), the famous “Valley of Dreams” (Κοιλάδας των Ονείρων). The winding mountain road was captured on video and posted on the famous social network by Dimitris Karvelis, collecting laudatory comments. The video received more than 31,000 likes, attracting the attention of users from all over the world.

Valia Kalda is located on Mount Pindos, the border of the prefectures of Grevena and Ioannina, and is part of the National Forest (Εθνικού Δρυμού). The total forest area reaches 6927 hectares (almost the size of the island of Corfu!), and the “Valley of Dreams” is about 3.4 hectares.

There are no settlements in the protected area of ​​the reserve. Among other things, the Pindos Forest is one of the last habitats of some animals. In addition, almost 80 species of birds nest in the valley.

The national park is one of the few places in Greece where a population of the European brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos) still exists. Other mammals in the park include the wolf (Canis lupus), wild cat (Felis silvestris), stone marten (Martes foina), European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), common squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), and wild boar (Sus scrofa). Rivers are inhabited by otters (Lutra lutra)[2]. Up to five species of bats have been recorded, the most common of which is the rufous noctule (Nyctalys noctula).
