A walk through Omonia at night amazed an Australian YouTuber

An Australian YouTuber who decided to take a walk at night in the center of Athens and, in particular, in Omonia Square was shocked: “This is the worst place I have ever seen.”

Shots from the center of Athens and specifically from the square. The riots are a terrible sight: dozens of people using drugs are located right in the middle of the street, prostitutes of all kinds parade in the “red quarters”…

At the beginning of the video, the Spanish YouTuber introduces himself to the audience, saying that he is from Sydney, spent most of his youth in prisons and in the corresponding “company” (that is, it is quite difficult to surprise him with anything). Now he makes videos of himself walking through notorious areas in different countries, commenting on and shedding light on what happens there after dark.

His YouTube account contains videos of famous areas (including from “prosperous countries”) where crime and drug trafficking are rampant. And despite the fact that the Spanish YouTuber visited many such neighborhoodshe cannot hide his surprise at the sad state of the streets around Omonia Square at night, even noting that it is “the worst thing I have ever seen in my life.”

In fact, the Spaniard’s 17-minute video about Omonia was uploaded to YouTube on November 27 and has already received 550,000 views. During his tour through the narrow streets of Omonia, the YouTuber records people injecting drugs in the street, others lying indecently on the sidewalks, homeless people rummaging through trash cans, and “hundreds of brothels” inviting customers in, offering “good fun.”

In addition, cars are parked “anywhere,” drunks are staggering around, cursing passers-by, and unbridled graffiti on the walls complements the disgusting “scenes” of the everyday (read: hopeless) life of the townspeople.

As the YouTuber mentions, one of the tips he usually gives to tourists when they are going to visit Athens is to stay away from Omonia at night. For his part, the Spaniard believes that the center of the Greek capital is a completely different world than other areas of the city.

The Spaniard also mentions Exarchia and the area’s relations with anarchists, stressing, however, that it is a very “safe and friendly place, and not at all a scary area of Athens.”
