A mother bear and her cub were killed in Epirus

A mother bear and her cub were shot dead on the Ioannina-Kozani national highway.

The dead animals were found at the 106th kilometer, between Plagia Konitsa and Eptahori Kastoria. This was reported by car drivers passing by. There are gunshot wounds on the body of the bear and the baby. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Forest Service personnel will arrive at the site where dead wildlife was found. Epiruspost publication contacted with the head of the Plagia community, Yiannis Papadimitriou, who spoke about the incident, which he was informed about by the police department. He noted: “This is a disgusting act that we all condemn.”

Mr. Papadimitriou said that in recent years the population of wild animals has increased significantly, which requires special public attention and organized action during periods when it is difficult for bears or wolves to find food. This should be taken into account by both forestry departments and environmental organizations working in a particular area. He lamented: “We live in villages and are familiar with the presence of wild animals. We respect them and everyone should do that. Such events are sad and condemnable.”
