4 places perfect for a day trip by car

You will probably agree that on Sunday we are sometimes overcome by an inexplicable melancholy. And this often haunts us throughout our lives, from youth to retirement.

However, during a one-day trip, a “dark” day can be illuminated by “sunshine”, and then the week will start in a better mood. So here they are, these 4 directions that promise to make your Sunday “brighter”, merge with nature, unwind and throw dull thoughts out of your head.

Vitina
Located in the mountainous Arcadia, Vitina is a great place for an excursion. The settlement is located at an altitude of just over 1000 meters. This quaint village is located just a stone’s throw from Tripoli. Here you can find traditional stone houses with crimson tiled roofs and friendly locals. In the central square of the village you will find the Church of St. Tryphon, famous for its black Vitin marble, which is worth seeing. Finally, after walking around to your heart’s content, stop by a local tavern and enjoy the taste of local dishes.

Lake Doxa
Whether you’ve been here before or not, Lake Doxa in ancient Pheneo (Corinth), located at an altitude of 900 meters and about 1.5 hours from Athens, is truly a part of Greece that deserves to be explored properly.

It is an artificial lake surrounded by the Aroane Mountains, in which the small church of Agios Fanourios or Paleomonastir stands on a narrow strip of land. On the wooded mountain you will also find the monastery of Pheneos, and the road around the lake is suitable for walking, cycling and horse riding. Include a visit to Gura, a green, picturesque village with beautiful houses.

Kalavryta
About 190 kilometers from Athens, in the “shadow” of Helmos at an altitude of 735 meters, is Kalavryta. The place combines nature and adventure, tastes and history. Take a lovely stroll through the city center and sample local produce, from honey and herbs to noodles and cheeses. Try local dishes in taverns. If you do get here early, you’ll have plenty of time to visit either the Cave of the Lakes in the village of Kastria, about 17 kilometers from the city, or the ski resort.

Nafplion
Nafplio is a good choice to combine good food, scenic walks, sightseeing and the sea – all in a one-day itinerary!

Start with a walk to Syntagma Square, making your way to the heart of the Old Town through a maze of narrow streets, hidden squares and magnificent neoclassical buildings. If you are in the mood for adventure and rock climbing, the Palamidi steps await you to admire the view from the top. You can also visit the Akronaflia Fortress, which stands proudly behind the Old Town and was used as a prison until the 1950s.

Bourtzi, located on a small island near the port, will leave a lasting impression on you. It was also built by the Venetians in the 15th century and has a long history as a castle, prison, hotel, tourist office, etc. And after you’ve enjoyed every bit of the beautiful city, you can relax over a meal by visiting a tavern in the Old or New city.
