Eva Kylie’s lawyers claim that "The immunity of the Deputy Speaker of the European Parliament was violated" (video)

A year ago, “Catargate” broke out, and Greek woman Eva Kylie was arrested as a result of the scandal. Her lawyers Christophe Marchand and Sven Marie believe that her parliamentary immunity was violated. She is now free and awaiting trial.

Let us recall that the corruption scandal in the European Parliament concerned the bribery of votes by rich Arab countries. During a year-long investigation, Belgian authorities released Kylie but restricted her freedom of movement. Lawyers demand that the European Parliament fully restore the good name of the Greek woman. Christophe Marchand said in conversation with Euronews:

“The European Parliament has a responsibility to act now. Deputies no longer need to put this matter off until later. If they do not act, they face disastrous consequences. We believe that legislators are to blame. It is the personal fault of the people who run parliament and refuse to schedule hearings. This is a personal fault. This is a violation of the law EU

During a search in Kylie’s Brussels apartment, they were discovered hundreds of thousands of euros, after which she was charged with corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. It is alleged that she accepted cash from Qatar and Morocco in order to influence political decisions of the European Parliament. However, lawyers are now demanding that this case be closed due to numerous errors made by the Belgian investigation. Sven Marie stated that the police mistreated with his client:

“This case can no longer be called ‘Catargate’. It’s finished. We need to rename this case “Belgiumgate”. The Secret Service prepared a report, which it provided to federal prosecutors last April. It is very important that Eva Kylie is not mentioned in this report. She was not suspected of anything. There were a lot of suspicions about other people who were not initially involved in this case.”

Kylie’s lawyers accuse the judge, who previously led the investigation, of trying to shield other European deputies allegedly really involved in “Catargate”. Lawyers resolutely insist on the Greek woman’s complete innocence. In the meantime, the former deputy speaker continues to attend parliamentary meetings, her trial is postponed.
