Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Staheikh, speaking at the Paris Conference on Gaza, stressed that “Hamas is an idea and cannot be eliminated.”
He said international humanitarian law was being violated and war crimes were being committed, adding that Israel’s war was not against Hamas, but against all Palestinians.
Earlier, in an interview with France 24, Staeh explained that the goal set by Israel – to eliminate Hamas – will not be realized. “Hamas is an idea, it is not just a military structure or organization in Gaza. Hamas is in the West Bank, in Lebanon, in Syria, its leadership is in Qatar… It is everywhere. This goal will not be realized,” – he said.
“Israel is violating international humanitarian law” – said the Egyptian Foreign Minister. In turn, Egyptian Foreign Minister Shameh Shoukry said at the Paris conference that he rejects any attempts to dislodge the Palestinians from Gaza, and that Israel’s actions go far beyond the scope of the right to self-defense.
Shamekh Shukri also condemned “international silence on violations of international humanitarian law by Israel” in the Palestinian enclave. “What the Israeli government is doing is far from the right to self-defense,” said Egypt’s foreign minister, deploring the “lack of balance in international consciousness.”
