Consumer Institute IN.KA calls for boycott of Unilever and P&C after fines

The Consumer Institute (IN.KA.) in Greece called for a boycott of the products of two multinational companies Unilever and Procter & Gamble after the Greek authorities fined them heavily, one million euros each, for excessive profits.

“Following fines imposed by the government on two multinational corporations for excessive profits, the board of IN.KA. has taken a decision and calls on consumers to boycott the companies Unilever and Procter & Gamble from 13 to 19 November 2023,” said the institute’s president, Giorgos Lehouritis, in a statement sent to the parliamentary committee on production and trade on Tuesday 7 November.

He emphasized that “the power of the citizen-consumer is reaction and resistance against those who profit, speculate and exploit our income.”

It is noted that a few days ago fines in the amount of 2,000,000 euros were imposed on two transnational companies for unfair profit-making.

  • A fine of 1,000,000 euros was imposed on the company “PROCTER & GAMBLE HELLAS MONOPROSSOPI EP”.
  • A fine of 1,000,000 euros for the company “ELAIS UNILEVER HELLAS AE”.

According to the Ministry of Development, the fines relate to the violation of Article 54 of Law 5045/29-07-2023, concerning the reduction of the phenomena of ill-gotten gains.

PS I just want to ask a question: where were you before with your boycott and statements? Then, when the population of the country began to be outraged by the excessive rise in prices. Or, as usual, until the authorities give permission, will we remain silent?
