Published data on juvenile crime is shocking: in September alone, Greek police made 1,353 arrests. This number equates to 43 arrests per day and raises serious concerns about the spread of crime.
Crimes for which hundreds of juveniles have been arrested include theft and carrying weapons, among others, as knives and other sharp objects were found in many cases. 86 of these arrests were made for causing bodily harm.
Authorities say violence is a “daily occurrence” occurring both inside schools and in central squares in densely populated areas.
This morning there was a new episode of violence between minors, this time near the secondary school in Aspropyrgos. Recently also recorded:
- An attack by 15 minors with the aim of stealing on schoolchildren who came on an excursion to Elefsina.
- Clashes between minors near the gymnasium in Aspropyrgos. Those who came to the “showdown” were armed with knives.
- Arrest of three minors for attempted robbery in Kifissya.
