It will take at least two years to fully restore the railway network in Central Greece

“Rebuilding the railway network in flood-hit Thessaly (Central Greece) will take at least two years,” Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tahiaos told parliament on Monday.

The region of Central Greece suffered enormous damage after the storm “Daniel” in early September. “We are talking about a complete restoration/reconstruction of the power line and a complete overhaul of all systems, said Tachiaos. – There is no chance that this restoration will be completed by the end of 2024. The restoration should be completed by the end of 2025. In fact, it takes almost two years for a complete recovery.”

The railway passing through Thessaly connects the two largest cities of Greece – Athens and Thessaloniki, carrying passengers and goods. According to the minister, Greece will be divided into two halves due to the lack of a railway line between the two main parts of the country within two years.

Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Tuesday that the government’s strategic plan is to transform the country into an energy and technology hub. As everyone knows from the speeches of the great wise government of the New Democracy, “energy can be transported using ships, technology can be transported via the Internet, and the questions “what to do when no bread?” they answer “eat cakes“*.

*The famous words of Marie Antoinette of Austria, spoken during the famine in Paris: “If they have no bread, let them eat cake.” The phrase has become a symbol of the extreme detachment of the supreme absolutist power from the real problems of the common people.
