A ceremonial parade was held in Athens with a large crowd of people

The school parade for the anniversary on October 28 in the center of Athens ended in the presence of representatives of the political, state and military leadership of the country.

Hundreds of students from different schools in Athens marched in front of the monument to the “Unknown Soldier” on Amalias Avenue. The sunny day brought thousands of citizens to the center of Athens to admire the spectacle. Pupils from primary, secondary and senior secondary schools (each with its own standard bearer and five demonstrators) proudly marched through Syntagma.

Before the start of the parade, wreaths were laid at the monument by the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Regional Governor of Attica Georgios Patoulis, on behalf of the Parliament Dimitris Stamatis, from the official opposition Athena Linou and from PASOK Panagiotis Dodonis. A total of 235 schools took part, including 134 primary, 50 middle and 51 secondary schools of general and special education.

In his statement, the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports said: “Today we honor the memory of those who responded correctly to the dilemmas of history, who fought an unequal battle and won it, who went through pain, hunger, occupation and then united with common efforts to rebuild destroyed country. We honor their memory today together with our students, together with our children and the younger generation. We will be there for them in their own battles.”
