Thessaloniki: Mother who left three small children in car to go shopping acquitted

Having determined that the woman did not act with malicious intent, the court acquitted her of endangering minors.

A Thessaloniki court has acquitted a mother who left three young children, including six-month-old twins, alone in a car to go shopping.

Having exhausted its leniency and concluded that the woman had not acted with malice, the court acquitted her of endangering minors. However, he urged her to be more careful in the future. “Evil never sleeps. I personally would not leave my child alone for a minute,” – said the chairman of the court, addressing the woman.

According to the case file, the incident occurred in May last year on one of the central streets of Evosmos. A passerby noticed three minors inside the car: in addition to twin babies, there was their 4-year-old sister.

“When I got into the car, the children were already asleep.”– the mother apologized, emphasizing that she did not want to wake up the twins, since one of them was restless. “I circled around to leave the car in a safe place where there was shade. I lowered the window a little so they could get some air. I didn’t want to cause them any harm.” – she added and seemed to regret her action.

“I didn’t go for coffee”she answered the court’s question about “how did she survive this horror”noting that, among other things, she bought milk and diapers for the children, and when she went to the second store, she lost track of time because, according to her, she was delayed at the checkout.
