The alleged “sabotage” at the site of the damage to the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Helsinki and Tallinn has not been confirmed. Finnish police have released their investigation data.
How reports BB.LV, near the site of the gas pipeline break, an anchor with a broken claw was found. According to investigators, it was they who damaged the gas pipeline. Now Finnish media are writing about the involvement of a Chinese ship in damaging the gas pipeline.
Yesterday, Finnish police said they had recovered a foreign object from the seabed near the damaged gas pipeline; it turned out to be an anchor, and media claimed that the Balticconnector gas pipeline could have damaged the Chinese vessel Newnew Polar Bear. In the photographs available online, this vessel is missing one of its anchors. Part of the anchor is visible on the left of the Chinese ship, but not on the right.
The most discussed version in the case of damage to the gas pipeline was previously sabotage. Yle wrote, citing a source, that the Finnish authorities suspect Russia of influencing the Balticconnector – Moscow could thus take revenge for the Nord Stream explosion.
At the same time, the Norwegian seismological service NORSAR reported that a possible explosion had been detected at the damage site, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg promised a “unified and decisive alliance response” if it turns out that the attack was deliberate.
