Marina Satti will represent Greece at "Eurovision 2024"

Marina Satti will represent Greece at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in the Swedish city of Malmo in May 2024, state broadcaster ERT announced on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old singer’s music is characterized by a combination of traditional Greek, Arabic, Balkan and Anatolian sounds with urban elements and rhythm. “ERT invited me to take part in Eurovision for the third time, but right now I felt that I was ready for this,” Satti told reporters.

The song that Sutti will perform has not yet been selected. ERT, its record label Golden Records and Minos EMI, as well as Sutti herself, are open to ideas and have invited songwriters to submit their proposals starting October 25, 2023.

Marina Satti was born in Athens in a family of a native of Sudan and a Greek woman from Crete. She grew up in Heraklion (Crete), in a culturally diverse environment, which had a significant influence on her musical development, as well as the multicultural nature of her artistic career. At an early age, the girl began studying classical piano, and in high school – classical vocals. She entered the National Technical University of Athens to study architecture, but did not graduate.

In 2008, studying with baritone Panos Dimas, Satti received a first degree in lyrical monody with honors and first prize. A year later, she received a second degree in advanced classical studies, while studying jazz at the Nakas Conservatory. In 2010, Suttie completed semesters of jazz composition and contemporary composition and production at Berklee College of Music on a scholarship.

In 2017, her single “Mantissa”, inspired by the traditional music of Epirus (Western Greece), went viral on YouTube, with 54 million views to date.

Greeks on social media welcomed Satti’s participation in Eurovision, admitting that Greece has not performed very well in the last couple of years.
