A shot of one of Israel’s night strikes on the Gaza Strip
A deal involving the United States, Israel and Qatar that would have led to the release of fifty Israeli prisoners has failed. This was reported by sources of the American publication.
“An agreement involving the United States, Israel and Qatar that could have led to the release of 50 Israeli prisoners has failed.”— transmits Wall Street Journal newspaper information sources. It is clarified that Hamas refused to discuss the possibility of handing over the hostages, so the negotiations were difficult. The parties came to the conclusion that concluding an agreement would become practically impossible in the event of a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
Since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, about 250 Israelis have been taken hostage by Hamas. It is currently known that 22 of them were killed as a result of Israeli strikes on Gaza. Hamas representatives said they are ready to release all hostages if the IDF stops attacking the Gaza Strip.
For its part, the Israeli army named the condition for abandoning the ground operation in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus, Hamas must surrender.
“If Hamas had come out of hiding, returned our hostages and surrendered unconditionally, then the war would have ended.”, Conricus said in an interview with ABC. Israel understands perfectly well that Hamas will never agree to such a deal, so in fact it was a refusal to negotiate.
