Publishing house owner arrested for counterfeit checks

A 64-year-old woman was arrested on Monday morning in Paleo Psychiko (Athens) with an arrest warrant for 22 outstanding convictions.

The arrested woman is a co-owner of a large publishing house in the Attica region. It is known that she is the wife of a Greek journalist and comes from a famous Greek family.

Officers from the Attica Security Department’s search unit located her on Diamantopoulou Street and arrested her because she had outstanding arrest warrants for outstanding convictions. We are talking about violating the law on checks and non-payment of labor contributions. She was previously sentenced to 24 years and 11 months in prison and a fine of 38,800 euros, but the court decisions were not enforced.

According to Greek police sources, the arrested woman “issued cashable checks to pay off the financial obligations of the specified company, did not pay accrued wages to employees on time, as well as established employer contributions to insurance organizations IKA and employee insurance contributions”.

The woman was taken to GADA to resolve procedural issues and will appear before the prosecutor tomorrow.

For reference: issuing unsecured checks in Greece is considered fraud and is considered a serious crime. The matter is aggravated by non-payment of social insurance, which significantly aggravated the punishment.
