In Iliya at dawn on October 22, an ATM was blown up

The explosion of an ATM in Dibri (Ilia) occurred early on Sunday morning 22 October.

The cheerful green 50 and 20 euro banknotes surprised and at the same time upset the ATM robbers, who once again decided to profit from the contents of the ATM. Banknotes recovered during the explosion turned out to be unsuitable for sale on the market. Painted with a special indelible green ink, the 50 and 20 euro banknotes were rendered useless. Similar Intelligent Banknote Neutralization System (IBNS) nullifies all the efforts made by ATM robbers.

At approximately 2:00 am, as reported by patrisnews.gr, the attackers arrived on motorcycles with a powerful engine, and their accomplices followed them in a black car. The attackers caused material damage to the surrounding infrastructure.

Having blown up the ATM, the criminals were unable to take away the cassettes with banknotes, and they had to hide “without a sip.” It is reported that the ATM has a “greenback” security system installed, so the dropped bills turned out to be useless because they turned a poisonous green color.

Mechanical destruction of the integrity of the ATM body activates the security mechanism, as a result of which the banknotes become useless. It is planned to place a similar protection system on all ATMs in the country so that thieves will be discouraged.

The IBNS security system can reportedly not only permanently ink 20% of all banknotes in the event of an ATM attack. It is also possible to use a special glue that instantly turns a stack of banknotes into a meaningless brick. The system is actively used in the European Union countries. One IBNS device costs more than €1 thousand. Banknotes painted with a special paint are ineffective and cannot be exchanged, this makes it meaningless to attempt to steal cash from ATMs.

The police are investigating to identify and arrest the criminals.
