Bedbugs are now in Athens – a wing of a famous hotel is closed (video)

Food and Tourism Workers President Giorgos Hotzoglou said about bed bugs in hotels and the closure of a wing of a famous hotel in the Greek capital: “There is a big problem with mattresses.”

On Wednesday 18 October he told on the television show “Open and Greek Hour”:

“Unfortunately, we have bed bugs. A hotel in the seaside suburb of Attica was forced to close a wing to carry out insect control. I don’t know how effective this is, but among other problems there was this one. Apparently some of our guests, mainly from France, brought insects and unfortunately they also remained in the hotel. Hotels have a big problem with mattresses. In the army we burned them, but I don’t know how the hotel will cope with such a problem. They’ve gotten into the mattresses, and replacing a mattress in a room is expensive.”

Previously we talked about bedbug infestation in France and Great Britain – Parisian authorities were forced to close seven schools in the capital. You should also be concerned about bed bugs in Greece, warn ΣΕΑΜΕ experts: “We are talking about a traveling insect, it can easily get into luggage.” Giorgos Lamprou, President of the Greek Association of Pest Control Companies, says that in addition to the fact that bed bugs travel with tourists, several cases have also been observed in the tourist areas of our country. However, there has always been a problem with bed bugs.”
