Shocking testimony from a sex trafficking victim

What the 25-year-old victim describes is shocking. According to the young woman, she was “sold” for 20-30 euros.

A 50-year-old Bulgarian national, arrested after an investigation by the Rhodes Police Sub-Directorate into human trafficking for prostituting his compatriots, is said to be a criminal with a “rich past” in cases of sexual exploitation. He was detained and taken to the prosecutor’s office; a trial will take place on October 19, at which he will testify in the case.

The man has caused concern to Rhodes authorities more than once in the past. For example, on August 5, 2010, he was found with 5.7 grams of cannabis, and on February 17, 2012, he was prosecuted for rape, human trafficking (for the purpose of sexual exploitation), pimping, and trading in laughing gas.

The repeat offender held his compatriots captive and in real hell. What the Bulgarian woman who accused him and caused his new arrest describes is shocking. According to her, she met a man on Facebook, and at some point he invited her to go to Greece to work. When she arrived, he took her personal documents and locked her in the apartment.

“He’s a bad person. He kept me locked up and brought men… He kept all the money for himself. In a foreign country, I was afraid of everything, I couldn’t speak (I didn’t know the language)… Moreover, he didn’t give me my documents,” the girl told the police, who listened attentively to her story about the misadventures that happened to her in Greece and continued to ask questions “I talked to my family on his cell phone and he controlled what I said. Everything I had, he took from me.”

“Once, when he drank, he beat me badly,” says the girl, bursting into tears. According to her, he turned the apartment into an illegal brothel. “I told him that I didn’t want to and wouldn’t do this… Then he threatened me and promised to “turn me over to the police” and they would put me in prison. All this time I couldn’t say anything to my mother, because he was always standing next to me when I talked to her, and I was scared,” the victim of sexual exploitation continued the story.

After this, the woman said that she became pregnant. “One of them didn’t use a condom and I got pregnant. I hadn’t had my period for three months and he took me to a doctor in the hospital who gave me pills. I wanted to keep the child. The doctor asked me something, but I didn’t understand… The 50-year-old himself decided everything for me,” says the girl. According to her, the woman remained in the same clothes that she brought with her when she arrived from Bulgaria. And now her health is compromised. Before she is extradited to her homeland, a psychologist will talk to her.
