Time Out: Greek neighborhood is one of the coolest in the world in 2023

One of the authentic Greek neighborhoods was included in the list of “coolest in the world” by Time Out magazine this year.

Last year it was Pagrati, and this year it’s the turn of Exarchia, which is ranked 31st on Time Out’s list of coolest neighborhoods.

This ranking has been published for the sixth year in a row. Initially more than 12,000 people were asked to choose the area in their city that is preferred by both tourists and locals. Then, with the participation of journalists, Time Out narrowed the list to 40 areas and ranked them based on a number of factors.

Exarchia is becoming an “increasingly popular tourist destination”, the characteristic features of the area have not yet been lost, reports the international publication. The magazine notes that until now it has been “a place where activists and anarchists gather.” However, the area has many cultural venues, as well as bars and restaurants.

When construction work on the Exarchia Square metro began last year, many feared the area’s style would be lost, Time Out continues, concluding: “If you want a taste of Greece’s anarchic underground culture, visit Exarchia immediately.”

The coolest neighborhood in the world, according to Time Out, is Laurel in Medellin, Colombia. It is followed by Smithfield in Dublin and Carabanchel in Madrid.
