Aigio: Police engage in shootout with ATM robbers


This morning (14.10) in the city of Aygio there was a shootout between police officers and four unknown persons who were trying to break into an ATM.

According to the police, the patrol crew of the Aygio police department noticed the unknown persons at the moment when they were trying to break into an ATM installed in the area adjacent to the supermarket. Immediately after this, unknown persons began shooting at the police, who returned fire.

The criminals then got into a car and headed towards the old Patras-Corinthos national road. A few hours later, the criminals’ car was found burned at the eastern entrance to the city, and during the police investigation it turned out that the car was stolen.

The criminals are wanted. It is noteworthy that neither the police nor the robbers were injured in the shootout…

Meanwhile, as part of the police investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending the criminals, evidence is being collected from both the ATM site and the burnt-out vehicle site, as well as searching for video footage from surveillance cameras operating in the area.
