Passenger traffic at El. Venizelos” in September exceeded 3 million people


According to statistics from Athens International Airport, passenger traffic reached 3,006,870 million, up 16.3% compared to 2022 levels and 11.8% compared to 2019 before the pandemic.

Both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels by 14.6% and 17.2% respectively. Compared to a record year in 2019, the number of domestic and international passengers increased by 16.3% and 9.9% respectively.

Domestic passenger traffic reached 943,924 passengers in September, up 14.6% from last year (823,231 passengers) and a corresponding increase of 16.3% compared to 2019.

Passenger traffic on international flights amounted to 2,063,746 million people. Compared to last year, there was an increase of 17.2% (1,761,400 million passengers).

According to APE, in just nine months of the year, the airport’s passenger traffic amounted to 21.68 million, an increase of 25.7% compared to 2022 and 8.6% compared to 2019.

In particular, both domestic and international air transportation (i.e. passenger traffic) exceeded the 2022 level by 20.3% and 28.3%, respectively, while demonstrating an increase compared to 2019 by 11.3% and 7.3 % respectively.

These data prove that 2023 is expected to be a record year for Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. Aviation market executives say it will surpass 2019’s historical figures as it is estimated to “close” with more than 26 million passengers.

In addition, the number of flights at Athens International Airport in the first nine months of 2023 reached 186,174, an increase of 12.9% compared to 2022 and 5.1% compared to 2019 levels.

Both domestic and international flights increased by 7.8% and 17.4% compared to 2022 and by 9.1% and 2.2% compared to 2019.
