What faults threaten Attica with an earthquake?

Seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos spoke about seismic faults that pose a threat to Attica.

On Sunday, in his post, he answered questions from worried citizens, quotes newsbeast.gr:

“What seismic faults threaten Attica? Many people ask. In the context of the anti-earthquake awareness campaign that we have been running for many years, I respond by always using proven scientific data from the last 120 years or so. Oropo Fault, earthquake of July 20, 1938, numerous destructions, many casualties. Alkyonidon-Schinos-Kapareli faults, earthquakes 24/2, 25/3/4 1981. A lot of destruction and casualties in the central region, significant destruction in Attica. Rigma Filis, Parnitha, earthquake 7-9 September 1999, numerous destructions, numerous casualties in the western suburbs of Athens.”

The seismologist regrets that there are other active faults, but experts have no data on when they were activated in the past.

Previously, our publication wrote that seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos warns: Over the past five days, 5 earthquake epicenters have simultaneously activated, and Attica is surrounded by them. He said that several small earthquakes have been recorded in Attica in recent days. And he emphasized that no one knows whether this is a coincidence, so he called for preparedness and vigilance.
