Government launches war on cash: ‘If you have cash, you must explain where you got it’

The Mitsotakis government has launched a war on cash by tasking the tax and audit authorities with checking all the sales of real estate that were completed in the last 2.5 years and were carried out exclusively in cash!

What does this mean translated into ordinary language? That the old method of “living poorly and saving money to buy a house” can no longer be used. After all, as you know, most purchases are made with mixed payments – part of the money is given through the bank, and the rest in cash.

In sight ΑΑΔΕ included more than 40,000 real estate transfer transactions (houses, land, plots, plots, shops) completed after March 2021 exclusively in cash, totaling more than 462 million euros.

As reported in the related information, ΑΑΔΕ starts immediately cross-checks and reconciliations against real estate transfer filescharacterized as being in the “high risk” category for tax evasion and “black” money laundering.

Each buyer will have to justify where did he get the cash and how did he pay for the property, and if he can’t, then a criminal case will be opened against him for money laundering with the risk of criminal penalties!

That is, the tax service does not recognize his right to save money under… his mattress and will require him to justify in detail when he uses it to buy real estate.

Not only buyers, but also sellers of real estate will become the object of attention ΑΑΔΕ to identify cases of fictitious transfer of property. Moreover, once the tax authority concludes that the funds used to purchase the property came from undeclared income or illegal activity, it will proceed to open bank accounts.

If the tax service determines that the amounts paid are not confirmed by tax returns and serious discrepancies are discovered, it will ask taxpayers to explain the origin of the money allocated for the purchase of real estate. Those who cannot explain where their money came from will be asked to pay a 33% tax on unjustified accumulation of “wealth” and their case will be referred to the Money Laundering Authority for further investigation.

In short, those who were homeowners and saved money to make the best of their lives will be persecuted as… tax evaders or even criminals!

It is obvious that the state in the future seeks to make cash a kind of “illegal payment method”, starting with the purchase of real estate. Of course, this will extend to other industries in order to gradually, over the course of six to seven years, abolish them completely.

Renowned journalist and author Alex Newman, President of media consulting company Liberty Sentinel Media, Inc., recently revealed the real reason for the introduction of new digital identities in combination with the digital currencies being created.

He also revealed that governments can seize citizens’ money when they exceed certain limits in their personal carbon footprint. In short, they will be prohibited from purchasing goods that are considered to produce significant amounts of carbon, such as steaks or airline tickets, or from “filling up” their gas tank with gasoline and thus transporting it to distant destinations. Of course, for this to happen, all money must be digital and cash must be eliminated. Then control over citizens’ wallets will be absolute.
