A woman learning to dive died on the island of Alonissos. The Coast Guard rushed to the scene and found the woman unconscious.
An older lady was learning to dive under the guidance of an instructor and two assistants from a diving center on the island. According to relevant information, today in the morning hours the Hellenic Coast Guard Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center received a message that scuba divers on the vessel “ROUSSUM GIALOS” in Alonissos Bay urgently needed help.
A Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ patrol car drove to the scene of the incident. from land, as well as a patrol boat. Rescuers found and raised an unconscious 62-year-old foreign woman. The woman was picked up by an EKAB ambulance and taken to Alonissos Regional Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
A preliminary investigation is underway, and the Athens Forensic Medical Service has ordered an autopsy on the body of the deceased.
