Supermarkets will now have labels with the words “Permanent price reduction”

It is expected that in the next 2-3 weeks new price tags will appear on supermarket shelves indicating “permanent price reduction.” At the same time, food inflation still remains at the level of 10-10.5%.

Will there be many such “specially highlighted products” (with the above labels), i.e. whether (and how many) suppliers and importers will reduce prices by at least 5% (and at least for six months) on their products in addition to the promotions and lucrative offers that are regularly held in supermarkets remains to be seen in reality.

The leadership of the Ministry of Development hopes that at least one product from all the main categories available in the “family basket” will have an appropriate label.

According to available information, some large manufacturers and importers of packaged food products (e.g. perishables), as well as some suppliers of essential items (office supplies, household chemicals, personal care products, home care products, etc.) also are considering reducing prices on a limited number of product codes.

On the other hand, owners and managers of companies producing and supplying basic food products such as rice, sausages, legumes, olive oil, cereals, cheeses etc. claim that the price reduction “does not seem possible”.

In any case, in order to take advantage of the “advantage” of the distinctive sign by which consumers will be informed about the “Permanent price reduction”, trading companies there are two months to make a decision, i.e. until the end of November. This initiative (with labels) will be valid until May 31, 2024.
