A dead man was found in the sea near Kos, trying to swim from Turkey to Greece


On Saturday 23 September, in the sea between Cape Rousa Pserimos and Kos, the body of a man was spotted from the tourist ship “Captain Gero Antonis”.

The ship’s captain informed the port authorities of Kos and Kalymnos. A police officer from the Kalymnos port administration immediately arrived at the scene. He took the body to the port and then to the island hospital.

How reports CNN Greece, details of the incident are still unknown, except that the deceased is a young man wearing a diving suit. A Coast Guard report dated September 23 states:

“The administration of the port of Kalymnos at noon on 22.09. was informed by the Unified Coordination Center for Search and Rescue of the Greek Coast Guard to investigate information about an unknown swimmer who began swimming from the Turkish coast to the Greek islands, who has been missing since early morning.

The local emergency plan was immediately implemented and the patrol boat Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ. went to the sea area east of ν. Ψερίμου, where he found a young man unconscious.

He was transported to the port of Kalymnos and then taken by ambulance to the main hospital of Kalymnos “ΤΟ ΒΟΥΒΑΛΕΙΟ”, where he was pronounced dead. It was confirmed that the body belongs to the missing swimmer.

The body has been transferred to the Dodecanese forensic service for an autopsy, and a preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Kalymnos port administration.”
