A 42-year-old man has been arrested for the armed robbery of a city center jewelery store by DIAS officers.
At noon on 23/09, an attacker, hiding part of his face, entered a jewelry store located in an apartment building in the center of Thessaloniki, and, holding the staff at gunpoint, swept away all the expensive jewelry from the display case. The “catch” amounted to about 8 thousand euros, the store owner said.
During the escape, the owner, with the help of witnesses, immobilized the criminal and held him until the police arrived. During the search, police found and seized a backpack with stolen gold, a camouflage mask and a motorcycle helmet, as well as a pistol with a six-round magazine, a straight razor and a screwdriver.
In addition, the motorcycle on which the attacker arrived at the store was confiscated. The vehicle was previously stolen (listed as stolen). During a subsequent search in the robber’s house, a wristwatch was found, the legality of whose ownership is being established.
The seized jewelry was returned to the business owners, and the motorcycle, after being checked by a team from the Northern Greece Criminal Investigation Department, will be returned to its rightful owner.
The arrested person, against whom the case was initiated by officers of the Levkos Pyrgos (White Tower) police department, was taken to the prosecutor.
