Russian peacekeepers died during shelling in Karabakh


Members of the Russian peacekeeping force in Nagorno-Karabakh were killed today when their vehicle was shelled, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that Russia is in contact with all parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Russian newspaper Vedomosti reports. According to the president, which he said during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Russia is counting on a peaceful resolution of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. Putin also noted that Russian peacekeeping forces are doing everything possible to protect civilians.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that an agreement had been reached on a complete ceasefire in the disputed enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, adding that it would be carried out in coordination with Russian peacekeeping forces. The message also notes that Russian dog handlers continue their work in Nagorno-Karabakh, providing all possible assistance to the civilian population and maintaining close contact with all parties. According to the Russian ministry, there are currently 2,261 civilians, including 1,049 children, at the main base of Russian peacekeeping forces.
