Daniel: payment of compensation has begun – 25.6 million euros to 4470 victims


The payment of compensation to citizens affected by the cyclone and its consequences has already begun: 4,470 households have been paid 25.6 million euros, said Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Triandopoulos.

As of yesterday, AADE had activated dedicated citizen service offices and the cross-check process was ongoing, he added.

Inspections and recording of damage to buildings are proceeding at an intensive pace. Inspections are carried out at the level of the General Secretariat for Rehabilitation and Natural Disasters.

“About 8,500 damage checks will be carried out in all corners of the affected areas in Thessaly and Central Greece. The work will also be carried out by regional state aid committees to support businesses. All victims will receive what they are entitled to, quickly, fairly and with care,” the deputy minister said.

Mr. Triandopoulos also reported about frauds that were noticed by the authorities. “Information about an attempted fraud has been made public. I would like to note that the responsible persons of the General Secretariat are on the ground, carrying out work with the support of army units, civil protection, and fire services. Attention! Service representatives do not request bank account numbers or passwords for the Taxinet system. Beware of scammers,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidaki gave information on the health status of the population in flood-affected areas during a briefing held at the operational coordination center in Larissa. Regarding health issues, Mrs. Agapidaki said that Over the past 24 hours, 1,429 people have visited 26 National Health Service medical facilities.. 62 new cases of respiratory infection and 51 new cases of gastroenteritis were registered. A total of 181 cases of gastroenteritis and 187 cases of upper respiratory tract infection were diagnosed.

As for hospitalizations, 3 cases (with gastroenteritis) and 7 (with respiratory infection) were also recorded. A total of 12 people were hospitalized with gastroenteritis, 15 with a respiratory infection.

The Deputy Minister also said that the hospital in Larisa is checking two patients with suspected leptospirosis*. The first test was negative. Concerning mosquitoes, then she said that tomorrow there would be results, although the test for larvae was negative.

**Leptospirosis is a natural focal infectious disease transmitted from animals to humans and occurs with damage to the liver, nervous system and kidneys. The causative agents of the disease are bacteria of the genus Leptospira.

Ms Agapidaki speaks of the incalculable damage, highlighting the pressing public health problem: “I will not leave this area until I make sure that everyone is healthy and the situation is back to normal.” The deputy minister also said that, in cooperation with the police and civil protection services, the distribution of rubber boots, masks, and gloves continues to be distributed to residents of the villages of Karditsa.

Regarding the water supply network and drinking water quality in the tap, she noted that “to date, 170 samples have been taken and we have two changes regarding the municipality of Tempo.”

“In the city of Volos we are awaiting results microbiological analysis for specific pathogens tomorrow at noon. So if these two tests are clean, and the microbiological indicators are also within normal limits, then from tomorrow we will be able to say that the water in Volos is also suitable for safe use,” she noted.

“In the municipality of Tempo, Nesson, Makrichorio, Gonnon, Kato Olympos and the historical community of Ampelaki water is unfit for human use. For the municipality of Trikkaya, in the communities of Prodromou, Prinos, Platanos, Xyloparikos, Gorgogyriou, Genesiou and Ardaniou, water is also unsuitable“, concluded Irini Agapidaki.
