A video posted on social media of a rally for flood victims in Larissa on Sunday 10 September shows the moment a police officer tells his colleagues that they will act in the crowd and that “we will beat them”.
In particular, the recording shows how a police officer, in particular, said: “We will go to the people. We will break them. And no one will avoid being beaten. We will go into the crowd, understand?” It is unknown what instructions this police officer received from his commanders, raising questions about what he is saying and what instructions he received.
According to reports, this was said shortly before the violent incidents at the Thessaly Periphery building, which resulted in the arrest of 24 people and the injury of six police officers. The number of victims from the protesters is unknown.

According to police sources, the crowd included many people with their faces covered, throwing stones and other objects. Video footage obtained by protothema.gr shows violent clashes between police officers and a group of people who had gathered.
A group of police were attacked with rocks, bricks and debris, a motorcycle fell to the ground and police were forced to retreat, using tear gas grenades to drive off the unknown assailants, with tensions lasting for about five minutes.

National Police statement regarding these incidents:
Yesterday (10/9) in the afternoon in Larissa, near the building of the Thessaly periphery, a group of several dozen people gathered, some of whom attacked the police using smoke bombs and heavy objects. As a result of the attacks, six (6) police officers were injured and taken to hospital for first aid.
To repel the attack, the police used appropriate means and made 26 arrests of persons, 7 of whom were arrested, and another 2 were identified and are wanted.
A case has been filed against them under the following articles: violation of public order, insubordination, use of violence against officials and judicial officials, crimes against the physical integrity of an official, damage to other people’s property and violation of the legislation on flares and fireworks.
It is noted that the General Regional Police Department of Thessaly has already ordered a preliminary administrative investigation (PIE) into the actions of police officers, which were recorded on videos circulated in the media and social networks.
