Rally in the port of Piraeus, where 36-year-old Antonis drowned

Despite the heavy rain, in the port of Piraeus and Crete, people gathered last night to honor the memory of the drowned Antonis, who was not allowed on board the ferry by the crew of the “BLUE HORIZON”.

How informs CNN Greece, four people arrested in the case, they all testified to the prosecutor. The defendants were charged not only with murder, but also with violation of articles of the Code of Public Maritime Law. Due to heavy rain, people walked to the court, where a decision was made on the measure of restraint for the suspects. And then they gathered at the ship where the tragedy occurred, at the Epsilon-3 gate in the port of Piraeus, for a protest.

The action was also held in Heraklion on Crete, people protested against the death of an innocent citizen. “Fairness and justice for Antonis”, “Unaccustomed to Horror” And “No fascisation of society”, “Our Life Matters” – these are just some of the posters in memory of the unfortunate Anthony.

The atmosphere was tense, with people shouting “murderers” and “unscrupulous shipowners” (“Αλήτες πλοιοκτήτες”), while anti-authoritarians in Crete held up a banner “It was not an accident, it was a murder” as they headed towards the Blue Horizon.

Holding umbrellas, people protested against the untimely and tragic death of a young man, furiously demanding justice. Recall, on the evening of the fifth of September dead man tried to board the passenger ferry “BLUE HORIZON”, which was supposed to go to Heraklion (Crete). The man ran up to the ladder of the ship about to sail, but the crew members pushed him ashore and did not let him pass. The unfortunate man jumped onto the departing ship, but he was violently pushed and drowned in the flow of water seething from the propeller of the ship. They took him out of the sea already dead.

The four defendants face serious charges of criminal offenses: premeditated murder, complicity in premeditated murder, interference with maritime navigation. Two offenses are punishable by life imprisonment.

In particular, the crew member who is pushing the unfortunate man in the video has been charged with manslaughter with possible malicious intent. Two other sailors who were present at the scene of the tragedy were charged with complicity in murder with possible intent. The ship’s captain has been charged with dangerous interference with maritime traffic, under a recently introduced regulation, following the deadly Tempe train accident last February.

Simultaneously, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Piraeus ordered an urgent preliminary inquiry into any liability on the part of the Port Authority. Among other things, it will be clarified whether the port employees were present when the ship departed and whether they did what was foreseen from the moment the passenger fell into the sea.
