Passenger traffic at the country’s largest airport, Eleftherios Venizelos, continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, with the number of passengers rising to 18.67 million in eight months.
Passenger traffic reached 3.29 million in August 2023, up 15.5% from 2022 levels and 8.4% more than in 2019, the pre-pandemic, according to Athens International Airport.
Both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels by 12.2% and 17%, respectively. Compared to 2019, the number of domestic and international passengers increased by 11.6% and 7%, respectively.
The traffic data is compared with the corresponding month of 2022 and 2019. In just eight months, the airport’s passenger traffic was 18.67 million, an increase of 27.3% compared to 2022 and 8% compared to 2019.
In particular, passenger traffic, both domestic and international, exceeded the levels of 2022 by 21.2% and 30.3%, respectively, while they showed an increase compared to 2019 by 10.6% and 6.9%, respectively.
Traffic statistics for August 2023 are provisional and subject to change. Traffic data for each month is updated after the 20th day of the following month.
