According to the information, the new document will be plastic (like a bank card) and will contain a microchip with the owner’s biometric data. The new ID card will have a photograph, gender, nationality and the name of the holder. The fingerprint will be in electronic (hidden) form.
Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Jerome, answering a question from journalists, said: “We need prudence and wisdom. Consider that some of our fellow citizens who are now flocking for ID cards may have been among those who protested against those very ID cards because they did not mention religion. So we need to think seriously and not react impulsively.”

The speech of the archbishop followed incident in Psachna on the island of Evia between a 45-year-old parishioner and a 66-year-old priest who has been serving in this church for 12 years.

The embedded electronic chip will contain information about the owner: registration with the municipality, the authority that issued the tautotite, and an electronic fingerprint (hidden). The reverse side of the tautotite will contain the following data: the owner’s father’s name (patronymic), mother’s name, place of birth, date of issue, blood type and social security registry number (ΑΜΚΑ), and the seventh degree of protection is “Ζώνη Μηχανικής Ανάγνωσης/Machine Readable Zone -MRZ” (machine readable string).
