20 year old "slave owner" held 13 people hostage

The police arrested a 20-year-old member of a criminal organization engaged in “human trafficking”.

As it turned out during the investigation, the criminals held 13 people against their will in an abandoned building located in the western district of Thessaloniki. The related report reads: “The coordinated action of the police officers of the Directorate of Aliens of Thessaloniki, carried out jointly with the Department of Immigration of Kavala, led to the identification and release of thirteen foreigners held against their will in an abandoned building in the territory of Ekhedoro (Εχεδώρου).

In the case, a 20-year-old foreigner, a member of a criminal organization, was arrested, against whom a case was initiated on participation in a criminal organization, illegal detention, extortion and illegal transportation of migrants within the country. In particular, as part of the investigation into the case of human trafficking and the illegal detention of illegal immigrants, at noon on August 23, 2023, both the arrested person and thirteen foreign victims were detained at an abandoned enterprise in the Ionia region.

Among them, six minors, all citizens did not have any travel documents. The offender, together with his accomplices, whose details have not yet been established, extorted money from illegal immigrants in order to release them. The detainee will be brought before the competent prosecutor, and the investigation continues to identify the other defendants in the case.

In fact, the situation is more simple. According to the scheme, according to which carriers of illegal immigrants work, migrants pay part of the amount, an advance, upon departure, and then, arriving at their destination, in this case, Greece, their families or authorized persons pay the rest of the amount.

This is where the game begins: one of the migrants tries to signal “out” from the habitat so that the police arrive. Law enforcement officers usually “release the detained victims”, send them to camps as victims of “human trafficking”, and arrest the carrier. In this case for these wise men double benefit – They NOT pay the second part of the amount and at the same time receive the status “victims of human trafficking”, which automatically gives asylum status.

Here, the truth is to understand that such wise men risk their lives. Since smugglers are serious people and can dig up too nimble clients a meter and a half below ground level.
