Moldovan President Maia Sandu hopes that a geopolitical opportunity to resolve the Transnistrian conflict will appear after Ukraine’s victory in the war with Russia.
The head of state stated this in a comment RadioMoldovastressing, however, that the main task of the government at present is to maintain peace throughout the country, especially in the risk zone – the Transnistrian region.
According to Sandu, Moldova lives in peace thanks to the Ukrainian army, in addition, the country has done everything to “prevent it from being drawn into the war, to maintain order and peace in their society”:
“We are interested in the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, and I repeat once again that the solutions that we see are only peaceful, and perhaps when Ukraine wins this war and regains its territories, there will be a geopolitical opportunity that will allow us to resolve the conflict peacefully “.
She stressed that the issue of the reintegration of Pridnestrovie should take place in such a way that it does not lead to “further weakening of the Moldovan state and democratic processes.”
Recall that in the spring in the unrecognized Transnistria, Russia was asked to increase the number of military contingents, and President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the Russian offensive strategy in Ukraine, which involves a counterattack in the south and a breakthrough to Transnistria.
