The New York Times: the number of wounded and killed during the full-scale war of the Russian Federation in Ukraine amounted to almost half a million

According to US officials to The New York Times, the US estimates the number of those killed and wounded in the war on both sides, Ukraine and Russia, at almost 500,000 people.

How writes CNN Greece, on the Russian side, according to US estimates, the total number of casualties is 300,000. Of these, 120 thousand were killed, 170-180 thousand were wounded. Ukraine lost about 70 thousand military dead and 100-120 thousand wounded.

Russia’s losses increased sharply in the winter and spring of 2023, during the battles for Bakhmut in the Donetsk region: hundreds of soldiers were killed or injured every day. During the defense of the city, Ukraine also suffered heavy losses.

Significant Ukrainian losses were also recorded in the first weeks of the counteroffensive, when it tried to break through the Russian defense lines in the south. In addition, there were problems with the evacuation of the wounded and the provision of medical care on the battlefield. Losses have significantly decreased, the newspaper notes, after the change of tactics and the transition to the shelling of Russian positions. True, Washington fears that Ukrainian ammunition stocks will run out quickly enough in this way.

The New York Times also notesthat, despite significant losses, the Russian Federation has a total of 1.33 million military. In Ukraine, they are almost three times less – about 500,000, according to US estimates.

These estimates are based on satellite imagery, intercepted telephone conversations, social media and media reports, and official data from Kyiv and Moscow. At the same time, both sides did not publicly disclose their total losses.
