A fisherman in Messinia discovered a mine at a depth of three meters

On Monday, August 14, a mine was found in the sea in Messinia – it is located at a depth of 3 meters in a remote area.

The ammunition was discovered by a fisherman in the area “Βιολογικού Μεθώνης”, access to which is only by sea. Rybak immediately reported the dangerous find to the authorities, the competent authority was informed by the Port Authority of Pylos. An identification mark has been placed at the location of the mine until emergency measures are taken, writes CNN Greece.

And in Romania on the same day, August 14, there was an explosion in the sea near the resort village of Costinesti. Presumably, a mine that hit the pier exploded. There were no casualties, but there was minor damage from the explosion. After the incident, Romania sent a helicopter and a ship to search for other mines in the Black Sea, and divers find out if the mine really exploded.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Romanian, Bulgarian and Turkish military diving teams clear mines drifting in Black Sea waters. Since February last year, divers have destroyed five mines in the area of responsibility of the Romanian Navy.

Following reports of an explosion at Kostinesti, the Bulgarian Navy took additional anti-mine measures “to ensure the safety of navigation and prevent accidents.” The message says quotes “UP”:

“Additional forces and means are in constant readiness to respond to signals of floating mines and their clearance.”
