Tolls at Road Points: Price Increase in September

Highway concessionaires have decided to increase tolls, prompting a reaction from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which says it will take all possible steps to put it on hold.

According to the ministry, the concessionaires applied on July 3, 2023 to the General Directorate of Transport Infrastructure and the Office of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport with a written notice. The document states that “it is necessary to working meeting with the CEO to adjust fares for 2023 based on the existing concession contract framework.”

Due with the importance of the issue the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the minister and his deputy, held meetings on 18 July and 24 July with:

  • Dimitrios Gatsoni, Managing Director of AEGEAN MOTORWAY SA,
  • Panagiotis Papanikolas, President and Managing Director of OLYMPIA ODOS SA,
  • Georgios Sirianos, Managing Director of MOREAS SA,
  • Rodiano Antonakopoulos, CEO of ΝΕΑ ΟΔΟΣ Α.Ε. / “ΟΔΟΣ ΚΕΝΤΡΙΚΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ Α.Ε.”.

It was the will of the political leadership of the ministry to find a realistic solution that does not burden citizens for 2023. Alternative scenarios were discussed in this direction.

As it became known, the concessionaires in in his new letter dated July 28, 2023 d. again turned to the leadership, since they did not receive any information from the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport on resolving this issue. Thus, as the concessionaires say, from next month (September) they intend to make a significant increase (by 12%) of the fare.

As noted, the state will exhaust all the possibilities available to it in order to achieve the suspension of unilateral actions of companies.
