Velopoulos raised the issue of the Russian Be-200 firefighting aircraft, stating: “When it comes to the interests of the country, we don’t care who we cooperate with: the Berievs were ideal for putting out fires and would put them out, but you didn’t take care of it. Why? I’ll tell you: because NATO forbids.” Earlier, former Defense Minister Panos Kammenos expressed regret that there are no Russian Be-200 aircraft in Greece.

According to him, the situation has deteriorated so much that it is impossible to do without Russian Be-200 aircraft. “Nothing can be put out without Beriev. Let’s bow our heads and ask for help now”, the politician wrote on Twitter, expressing confidence that Russia will help.
