British Ambassador to Athens Matthew Lodge announced that his country has sent a rapid deployment force to Rhodes to assist tourists in connection with a fire that is destroying the island and threatening their lives.
A similar mobilization of rapid response teams was carried out in Egypt in February 2011 to evacuate 30,000 British citizens.
Since the #wildfires situation deteriorated yesterday @ukingreece has been working with the Greek authorities, airlines and tour operators to support UK nationals on #Rhodes. A rapid deployment team from @FCDOGovUK is on its way.
