Flash Bulletin from EMY: third heat wave from 44°C from Tuesday

For two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, the heat will again be unbearable, according to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to rise again to 44 ° C.

Thunderstorms with downpours and unbearable heat – which areas will be affected and when

On Wednesday, the temperature will reach very high values, but already from the second half of the day in the northwestern regions of the country, and more precisely in the northern Ionian, Epirus and western parts of Central Greece, the weather situation will change: thunderstorms will begin, which will be accompanied at times by a very strong north / northwest wind (burinia). In the evening, these limited but intense phenomena will spread to Macedonia, Thessaly, the western Peloponnese and the southern part of the Ionian Sea.

New special bulletin from EMY – weather change

The Hazardous Weather Emergency Bulletin, which refers to a heat wave that has been causing periodic thermal events called CLEON in many parts of the country since 12-7-2023, is being updated with the latest forecast data.

In a nutshell:

• On Tuesday 25-7-2023 a new (third) heat wave with very high temperatures.
• On Wednesday 26-7-2023 very high temperatures across the country, but from the second half of the day the heat wave will begin to recede, bursting through the north-west of Greece.
• On Thursday 27-7-2023 a noticeable drop in temperature.

1. On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, a new severe heat wave is predicted across the country. Maximum temperatures reached:
   1. 40-42°С on the mainland and 43-44°С locally in the interior of Thessaly and Stereo Hellas
   2. 39-41°С in the Ionian Islands, in the eastern part of the Aegean, in the Dodecanese and in the south of Crete
   3. 36-38°C in the rest of island Greece
2. On Wednesday 26-7-2023 the temperature will reach very high values, but from the second half of the day in the north-west of the country and in particular in the north of the Ionian Islands, in Epirus and in the west of Central Greece, the weather situation will change: thunderstorms will pass, accompanied at times by a very strong north / north-west wind (burinia). 3. On Thursday, July 27, 2023, the temperature is predicted to drop by 6-8 degrees across the country and not higher than 35-37°C.

Kolidas: “From next Thursday the temperature will be at a good level” – the heat is receding.

In a new social media post, EMP director Theodoris Kolidas reports a marked drop in temperatures from next Thursday (down to 38°C), emphasizing that the heat wave – at least until the end of July – will not return.
