Who has the first place in the list of the most influential passports in the world

The 2023 Henley Passport Index was compiled using data provided by IATA. Singapore ranked first in the list of the most influential passports in the world.

Singapore’s “red passport” is at the top of the rankings, overtaking Japan, which was the leader until last year. In practice, this means that Singaporean passport allows its holder visa-free entry to 192 destinations from 227 countries.

When compiling Henley Passport Index 2023 took into account data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), which ranks the passports of citizens of the world based on the number of destinations to which they owners can access without a prior visa.

Germany, Italy and Spain are tied for second place, with their citizens able to visit 190 destinations around the world.

Greece is in seventh place with her passport providing free access to 185 destinations on par with Canada. Japan, which topped the list last year, has dropped to third place with its passport allowing visa-free travel to 189 destinations, up from 193 in 2022. Other passports tied for third place with Japan include Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea and Sweden. The UK moved up two places to number four, recovering from a six-year decline.

Of the top 10 countries, the US has shown the smallest increase in its index over the past decade. They now occupy eighth place in the passport index.

Henley and Partners stated that “a secure passport is more than just a travel document, it also provides significant financial freedom when it comes to international investment and business opportunities.” “Global connectivity and freedom of movement have become essential elements in creating and maintaining assets, and their value will only increase as geopolitical and regional instability intensifies,” the article says.
