A wildfire on the island of Rhodes has been raging since Tuesday afternoon, burning a dense forest of pines and cypresses and killing wildlife. Firefighters struggled with the flames all night, and with the first rays of the sun, air means entered the fight.
The fire broke out between the villages of Apollonos and Laerma.

The former chairman of the community of Apollonos was taken to the hospital and received burns. Together with firefighters and volunteers, he tried to evacuate the fire victims.
However, despite efforts to extinguish the fire, the flames revived, divided into several fronts, according to reports, got out of control and is moving towards the village of Laerma.
Shortly after 10 a.m., a correspondent for the state television and radio company ERT reported that there were delays in extinguishing the fire, as 3 aircraft left for refueling.
More than 120 firefighters, volunteers and citizens, 3 water drop planes and 3 helicopters are working on the front of the fire, trying to stop the main one located in the dense forest.
The west wind blows with an intensity of 3-4 points on the Beaufort scale. It is possible that two planes from the island of Crete will be sent to help firefighting forces on the island of Rhodes.
PS Heroism is, of course, good and right, but, as the classics said, “gheroism – This always somebody defect”. And we face this every time. NOTfiremen grip, NOTgrip of fire extinguishers, NOTreadiness for such situations is exactly the human factor that we all know about. So maybe it’s time to think about the future of your country, because at such a pace in a few years, instead of the forests around us, there will be only thorns with rare shrubs …
