Hollywood on strike: actors join writers in protest for more than two months

A double strike of actors and screenwriters in Hollywood, more than 150,000 television and film actors are ready to join the protests.

How informs The New York Times, SAG-AFTRA, a joint union of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, went on strike after unsuccessful wage talks with film studios and streaming companies. The unions sought higher wages for mid-level actors and guarantees that artificial intelligence would not replace or limit the functions of artists on the set.

Screenwriters against studios using AI to create scripts. Actors fear the technology could be used to create digital copies of themselves without payment or approval.

During the strike, the actors will not participate in filming and advertising campaigns, and attend premieres. Hundreds of filming sessions are expected to be interrupted or delayed. Among the studios and platforms that will be affected by the strike are such giants as Fox, Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Universal, Sony and others.

The strike has already led to the cancellation of next week’s film industry events. The Film and Television Producers Alliance, which represents the interests of giants such as Disney, Netflix, Amazon and others, deplored the strike, saying it would affect thousands of workers in industries that support film and television production.
