We went fishing and almost caught… a wild boar

Amateur fishermen, residents of Pelion, went fishing on Saturday, July 8, but something went wrong.

“These figures are horrifying, and if we take into account the rate of their reproduction, then in 2-3 years they will capture the entire territory. We must take immediate, radical and effective measures,” the official stressed.

According to the site onlarissa.gr, a group of fishermen went to the Milina area in Pelion and, being in a boat, they saw a wild boar trying to swim from one point of land to another. It was not possible to get close to the aggressive animal. And unfortunately, the unfortunate animal drowned before reaching the shore. Recall that in Greece there is a real problem with wild boars.

For example, Thessaloniki is besieged by thousands of wild boars, their number reaches 9,000-10,000 in the vicinity of the city. There is nothing the forestry and veterinary services can do about it, says Neapolis-Sikeon (Νεάπολη-Συκιές) Mayor Simos Daniilidis.

“These figures are horrifying, and if we take into account the rate of their reproduction, then in 2-3 years they will capture the entire territory. We must take immediate, radical and effective measures,” the official stressed.

To resolve the issue, a wide meeting was held, convened by the Inspectorate for the Implementation of the Forest Policy of Macedonia-Thrace, with the participation of representatives of the municipalities, the region of Central Macedonia, the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

What exactly is going on? The same thing is happening with wild boars all over Greece: at some point, wild pigs came into contact with domestic pigs on farms in Northern Greece, where they are at large within the borders of farms. From this hybrid, wild pig litter, which previously was 3-4 pups, now reaches 6-8 and even 10 pups.

In connection with the number of livestock that has increased many times, accidents, sometimes with a fatal outcome, are increasingly occurring.
