Suspension of employment contracts in the fur industry extended until the end of July

The measure to suspend the employment contracts of employees of fur enterprises affected by sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine, introduced from July 2022 to June 2023, is extended until 30/9/2023 under the same conditions as in accordance with current Ministerial Decree No. 67806/19-7-2022 (B3796).

The ERGANI system will be available from 3/7/2023 for the above enterprises to submit declarations on the suspension of the employment contracts of employees for July 2023. In particular, for employment contracts of employees suspended between 1/7/2023 and 10/7/2023, business declarations must be submitted between 3/7/2023 and 10/7/2023. For employee contracts suspended from 11/7/2023 onwards, advance notice of suspension applies.

Meanwhile, at the end of May 2023, a competition was announced for the 2nd event of the Ministry of Development and Investment called “2nd cycle: emergency grant to fur enterprisesaffected by Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the international sanctions imposed”with a budget of 8 million euros, which is implemented within the framework of the National Development Program.

Former Development and Investment Minister Adonis Georgiadis said: “Until the last day of our mandate, we work for the benefit of our fellow citizens. Another NSRF program aims to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises in a specific sector that has been particularly affected by sanctions against Russia and that supports the economy of two cities in the country. We are on their side and will continue as long as it takes to get these businesses back on their feet.”

The action includes support through an emergency grant for enterprises in the fur and related products sector. The grant will cover, in the form of working capital, future operating expenses and purchases of raw materials to provide some of the liquidity needed to keep businesses and businesses running, indirectly supporting job retention. The minimum grant amount for each potential beneficiary is 4,000 euros, and the maximum is 60,000 euros.”

This action follows the 1st NFSD project for 2014-2020 called “Grant to fur enterprises affected by the war in Ukraine and international sanctions against Russia” under the Program for Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPANEK), through which 70 enterprises received support in the amount of 3.2 million euros.

As we reported earlier, fur industry in Greece 80-85% worked for buyers from Russia. The sanctions imposed against Russia in connection with its attack on Ukraine have led the industry to the actual collapse. The owners of enterprises were forced to close them or send their employees on long vacations. Merchants somehow still manage to sell their products, but, apparently, the industry is waiting for ruin and oblivion.
