Shooting at the Moldovan airport, there are victims

One passenger was injured, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said. According to him, a 43-year-old citizen of Tajikistan opened fire.

Viorel Cernauteanu, the head of the Moldovan police, at a press conference did not confirm or deny that the attacker, who tried to enter Moldova with a Tajik passport, had other citizenships – this information is being verified. According to Cernauteanu, there is no evidence that the attacker had connections with the military or paramilitary structures. According to initial information, the detainee was not on the international wanted list.

In an interview with DW, he said that the border guards seemed suspicious to the background of a passenger who arrived from Turkey. In addition to him, another 10 passengers of the flight were not allowed to enter the country for various reasons. Authorities are investigating whether they were linked to the shooter.

The first time after the shooting incident, in which a border guard and a security inspector were killed, the reception of passengers from arriving flights changed – people passed through the VIP-lounge, which temporarily did not work in this role, and the express-lounge. The departure zone worked as usual.

During the arrest, the attacker was seriously injured and is now in hospital custody. How report today the Moldovan media, we are talking about 43-year-old Rustam Ashurov, who has citizenship of Tajikistan and Russia. He is in hospital in critical condition and faces a life sentence.

The prosecutor’s office opened criminal proceedings on “a terrorist act committed by killing several persons.” After the incident, the Moldovan authorities put all state institutions, as well as law enforcement agencies on high alert.
