The armed forces and the fire service come to the aid of the Greek "Ambulance"

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during today’s first cabinet meeting, determined healthcare and in particular the strengthening of the ambulance service (ΕΚΑΒ), as one of the top priorities of the new government.

“Our task will be to start economic assistance to citizens, to continue to address the ongoing problem of food shortages, especially food, but also to cover some very relevant social emergencies. remote areas – with the help of specialized personnel from both the armed forces and the fire brigade”, the prime minister said.

This is an important development as this will cover local needs, separate from the strengthening of the NHA and ABEC, which the government is continuing to serve the needs of local communities.

The Greek army, with its helicopters, has always offered a large amount of social work and has a lot of weight in the field of immediate medical care – although this is not part of its responsibility – by transporting patients from island and border areas to hospitals in urban centers, but with all that this means for the readiness of the equipment in case of emergencies and damage.

According to military sources, this task also means an increased load on air transport, involves an increased consumption of materials and spare parts. And of course, helicopters, after working out certain hours, will have to go for maintenance.

Given the significantly higher cost of spare parts and consumables for military equipment, in contrast to civilian ones, this measure will put a heavy burden on the country’s budget, but will help reduce social tension and the reaction of tourists to the situation with medical care in Greece.

Like us previously reported, several deaths have been recorded in Greece in recent weeks due to a lack of funds in the ambulance service. The last one is death. 45 year old tourist on the beach in Thassos. Witnesses to this death claim that the ambulance arrived about 50 minutes late.
