The mayor of Moscow made Monday a “non-working day”

The mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, has just published an announcement on Telegram stating that “a counter-terrorist operation regime has been declared in Moscow” and Monday will be a “non-working day” to “minimize risks.”

How writes Air Force, the mayor asked Muscovites “if possible to refrain from traveling around the city”, called the situation difficult and said that “city services are on high alert.”

The Russian authorities announced a “counter-terrorist operation” in Moscow, the Moscow region and south of the Voronezh region, as a result of which they received a number of special powers:

  1. Restriction of movement of people and vehicles.
  2. Monitoring or limiting communications.
  3. The right to search people and vehicles.
  4. Evacuation of the population if necessary.

Prigozhin accused the Russian military of hitting civilian targets from the air, writes Reuters when they tried to slow down the advance of the column. He said his people were on a “justice march” to remove corrupt and incompetent commanders whom he blames for the failure of the war in Ukraine.

Rebellious Russian mercenary fighters rushed towards Moscow on Saturday after captured the city in the south of the country. The Russian military opened fire on them from the air, but did not seem to be able to slow down their lightning advance.

Faced with the first major challenge of his 23-year rule, President Vladimir Putin promised to suppress armed rebellion, which he likened to the Russian Civil War a century ago.

Reuters saw armored personnel carriers and a flatbed tank truck rush past Voronezh, more than halfway to Moscow, where they were fired upon by a helicopter. But there were no reports that the rebels met any serious resistance on the highway.

And how do ordinary Muscovites feel about Yevgeny Prigozhin?
